Studio 231 Assists In Building Remote Control Car

--

Mechanical Engineering studios designed a remote control car using Studio 231’s 3D printers.

Carla Silvestri is a Senior Mechanical Engineering major at Rowan University. She was given a class assignment to design and create a remote control car. Carla and her team decided to design their car to resemble Lightning McQueen, a fictional character from Disney’s Cars. They began researching the best way build such an elaborate project and found Studio 231 located in Business Hall 231 on Rowan’s Glassboro Campus. Carla and her team learned that the Studio could provide the specific 3D printing capabilities and resources needed to build their car, specifically one that was large enough to accommodate printing such a large car shell.

We asked Carla to reflect on her experience with Studio 231.

How was your experience working with a Studio 231 Technician?

Andrew was very helpful! He got our print done in a timely fashion and made himself available on a Friday for me to come and pick up the project.

Did the results of your project match your original vision?

Yes, we were very happy with the way it came out.

What were your next steps?

After working with Studio 231, we were able to paint our car and successfully present it to our professor.

Studio 231 is available and free to Rowan students of all majors Monday through Thursday and by appointment on Friday. The studio includes a variety of equipment including a 3D printing station; branding, advertising and sign-making machinery; a photo/video suite; and assorted hand tools.
