Rowan Students and Faculty Celebrate MSMEs at the United Nations
Rowan’s student entrepreneurship club, the Collegiate Entrepreneurs’ Organization, took a delegation of aspiring student entrepreneurs to the United Nations. While there they participated in a three-day celebration of the impact of small and medium sized enterprises around the globe as well as met with students from other universities. Rohrer College of Business Dean Sue Lehrman and RCIE Executive Director Eric Liguori spoke at the event on the role of universities in empowering next generation of entrepreneurs.
Liguori, speaking on the current state of entrepreneurship education, noted “As leaders in our respective institutions we need to continue to break down boundaries and spread entrepreneurship across our campuses. One of the most exciting developments I’ve seen over the last few years is a drastic increase of scholars from non-business fields engaging in research around how to get non-business majors thinking entrepreneurially.”
Research on interdisciplinary entrepreneurship education is a topic of interest to Liguori and several other Rowan faculty members. Dr. Cheryl Bodnar, Assistant Professor of Experiential Engineering Education in the Henry Rowan College of Engineering, has published extensively on engineering entrepreneurship education, for example.
Speaking to the overarching goals of the Rohrer College of Business, Lehrman noted stated “Rowan aims to ensure that each of our graduates recognize the critical need for socially aware leadership, and are equipped to enter the workforce with the skills necessary to make a difference.” This effort has been amplified exponentially in 2018–2019 via the growth in social entrepreneurship programming offered by the Rowan Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship and with the launch of the Rowan Center for Responsible Leadership.
